Today we found ourselves in OakGlen which is about an hour away from us in the San Bernadino mountains. Normally this time of year it is cool, crisp and very fall-ish. That was not the case today. Today we found weather in the high 80's to low 90's. Definitely not sweater weather.
Bella was so tired she wound up resting her head on the water bottles.
And the "pièces de résistance" (the fruits of our labor - so to speak)
Homemade Apple Pie
We also found our friends (amoung the crowds of people); shared a picnic lunch and then off to pick apples.
Now mind you - most folks that go up to OakGlen to pick apples, literally "pick" apples. That means - stand under an apple tree with an apple picker (tool) and pick the apples from the branch. Not the "Blacks".
Our form of picking apples is to go into one of the farm's warehouses, go straight to the apple tasting bar ("yes" they have apple tastings) and find that perfect apple. So that's what we did.
Today we picked (out from a barrel) and purchased Arkansas Blacks and Honey Crisps. The Honey Crisps are my favorite and that's what we used to make our first baked from scratch -"pie crust and all" - apple pie.
So without further ado, here are some pictures from today's road trip.
Prudence and Bella - all dressed up at the Pumpkin Patch
You can tell if it's hot out because the hotter it is, the longer Pru's tongue grows (ha!).
