OC Int'l Triathalon, Road Closures & More

Today we opted to walk to church. Why? Because of the Orange County International Triathalon was today.

We live directly off the route taken by the athletes and road access was limited from 5:30 a.m. to noon today. So we decided to walk. Fortunately church is only a 1/2 a mile from us.

As we walked to church we watched several cars turned away from trying to drive on these "blocked" routes. Road Blocks It's too bad - they must not have seen the signs that have been posted around town for the last two weeks.

I was a little disappointed I didn't get to see more cyclists on our walk but I'm guessing they passed by much earlier.

I made sure to take my camera though so I could get a few shots of the athletes as they rode back by; returning from the 40K bike race. I figured I'd at the least get to see that (and we did).

The picture above was taken looking back across the bridge, up the hill we had just walked down to get to Saddleback.

The next few pictures were taken from the bridge (on Saddleback Church's campus) looking down onto "Old" El Toro Road (that is now mainly used as a bike path or by runners).

This was the second staging area; as the first staging area was by MV Lake (which is approximately 2 miles from where we live). That is where the race began in the water (swimming the lake).

It was good to see that folks came out to cheer on the athletes.

This last last picture shows where the bikes were dropped off and the third leg of the race "Running" began.

After church and our normal Sunday grocery shopping at Trader Joes; we finally went to see "Fireproof". What an amazing story. And can I tell you that there wasn't a dry eye in the theater (men included).

I personally felt convicted after leaving the movie and I am going to pray that it touches many people. What a wonderful work this southern church is doing by creating these movies to share with the world.

I'm really excited to see what others have taken from their personal experience watching it. If you've seen it and you want to share your "comments" - please do.

I'm also praying that once our small group finishes our current study "40 Days of Love" that we do the "Fireproof" Study.

If there's a movie I would suggest everyone see (no matter where you are in your relationship - single or married - on top of the mountain or in the fire of dispair) please see FIREPROOF!

My husband and I saw Fireproof together, and we were struck by the movie's celebration of covenant marriage and unconditional love. So many movies today just insult marriage, promote affairs or portray marriage as joyless and worthless. Fireproof boldly proclaimed marriage as well-worth the sacrifice, yet didn't back down from the fact that it's at times difficult, even agonizing. Not only that, the film-makers didn't just make a movie about marriage, they developed peripheral tools to make marriages stronger. We have a copy of the Love Dare book used in the film, as well as a "Couple's Kit" which is a bible-study based on the film that couples can do at home or with a group. These have made a real difference in our ability to address and improve these areas in our own marriage, and they are probably the most important things we have done for our marriage this year. I found them online at www.fireproofoutreach.com. (I heard you can get the Love Dare book at a cut-rate on that site too! Yay!)

My advice to everyone: take your spouse, your fiancée, or someone who might be married someday and go see this film.

Thank you for sharing your insight and how the movie has been a positive in your marriage. I also appreciate the information on the book and study.

I did take some time to read some of the stories on the www.fireproofmymarriage.com and all I can say is "WoW" God is awesome!

Thanks again for sharing.

Great photos! We wanted to watch the runners as they ran close to our house but were at Evelyn's horse show. We left our neighborhood just as the roads were being closed off.

Thanks for the info on FireProof. I rarely get to movies but do want to see this one.
